The Growing Creative is run by 21 year old student Alana Isbell. She currently attends High Point University and majors in Fashion Merchandising. With a love of fashion, photography and travel, she created The Growing Creative as a way to share her lifestyle tips, personal style and adventures with the world! xoxo
Mario Badescu is the new millennial must have skincare brand. The products are affordable and with the online skin analysis quiz, you’ll know just what to buy. You can even request samples of your new skin care regimen before committing! Just pay the $2.95 for shipping.
My personal must have is the Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. I h i g h l y recommend checking it out. This magical pink spray is great for revitalizing skin, setting makeup and even cooling you down on a hot day. It smells amazing and gives your face that extra little boost.
I also love it for traveling. Since I fly a ton, my face gets super dry from the sudden altitude change. Without this secret weapon, my face would over produce oil to compensate for the lack of moisture in the plane. Just spritz a few squirts of Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray once before takeoff and once before landing for a very happy face! (If you’re on a long international flight, feel free to use it mid flight as well… especially after your nap).
Here is another tip from the Mario Badescu website:
#MBSKINTIPTo give your makeup a dewy finish, spritz your favorite brush or sponge before blending in foundation or concealer. Once you’re done, mist your face as a final step to add radiance. For an extra refreshing and cooling boost, store the bottle in your refrigerator”
You can get this product and many others at places like Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Ulta Beauty and Nordstrom.

Happy Thursday 🙂 For me Thursdays mean the weekend is starting, but for most… Only one more day!
This look is something I can wear to my internship that easily flows into my after work plans. The midi skirt is so comfortable and moves beautifully. The material is light enough for a summer day, especially when paired with a crop top or tank. I’ve also been loving the platform shoe trend! It such an easy way to add height without committing to a full day of wearing heels.
I highly recommend checking out Scotch & Soda if you want on trend statement pieces with amazing quality.
My name is Alana Mckenzie Isbell, and I am The Growing Creative.
First things first, I chose this name and platform to display my everyday fashion, photography/ design background (hence the creative part) and to share my journey as I grow and try to figure out what direction I want to go in all aspects of my life. I didn’t want to choose a name that limited me to one topic, but let my blog grow and change as I do.
I am about to enter my senior year at High Point University in North Carolina. I am an individualized major (meaning I created my own major) in Fashion Merchandising. Combining Visual Merchandising (and a little interior design), Fashion, Sales, and Marketing to make one major that fits me perfectly. I spent the last semester studying in Florence, Italy where I earned a Certificate of Fashion and learned that you can feel completely at home VERY far from where you actually live! Studying abroad changed me drastically for the better, and I wish I could explain to you how fulfilling that experience was… But I will talk more about that in a later post!
I am currently living in New York City working as a Wholesale/ PR and Marketing intern for an Amsterdam Couture company called Scotch & Soda. I only have about 3 weeks left before I’m finished, which blows my mind. It feels like just yesterday I made the move and started my first professional job. Studying abroad and working for Scotch & Soda has taught me that the fashion industry is more than just designers and buyers and that there are hundreds of different fields that make up the world of fashion, each one equally as important as the next. I always thought I wanted to be a buyer, but now I’m even more confused than I was as an incoming freshman! But I am learning that it’s totally okay and I probably won’t know exactly what I want to do until I accept a few jobs that teach me exactly what I don’t want to do.
Well I think that’s about it! If you have questions or comments, or just want to know more about me, please feel free to comment in the space below… I would LOVE to hear from you.
